Venus

(2023)

4 minute work

Performed by an all woman identifying cast, Venus demonstrates a heavy nod to our current battles for women’s rights and is inspired by how bureaucratic inertia is currently entangled with people's rights to choose, speak, and dress. Grube’s inspiration was struck by a sculpture displayed in front of the Carl B. Stokes Federal Courthouse in Cleveland, OH. Stands is the sculpture of a woman's body; no head, no arms, a bare-breasted torso with draping cloth around the waist. This sculpture is titled, “Cleveland Venus.”
